An interesting variation to this exercise is to use an offset hand position. By this I mean perform one set of the exercise with one hand positioned 6" to 12" in front of the other. This asymmetric hand position changes the exercise significantly and poses some interesting new challenges.

It also presents the potential for a number of variations of where to pull the knees (to the middle, the near elbow or the far elbow) This again changes the exercise and adds a significant challenge.
