Karen is a retired Los Angeles County Deputy Sheriff and
fitness has always been a part of her life. At the age of 6 she began competing
in track and field. As a Deputy Sheriff, she received a perfect score
in the Physical Fitness test during her academy, a feat no other female
has accomplished in the Sheriff’s history. She has also competed as a
bodybuilder in the Police Olympics for several years. After 3 years of
rehab from job related injuries, she is now the owner/trainer of her
business, "Love Ur Life Personal Training." She is now feeling
fulfilled helping others become healthy and fit!

How did you first hear about the TRX?
I saw a demo at the LA County Health and Fitness Show 2009 and
purchased one there.
What excited you most about the TRX?
The most exciting thing for me is the fact that I can
achieve the strength I once had prior to my injuries. I can now train harder
without causing a flare up. At 40 years of age I am really in the best shape of
my life (physically, nutritionally and mentally).
Now, with the TRX as a tool, I can train my clients based on
their own levels and have watched them drastically improve their core and upper
body strength in a very fast amount of time.
Thank you TRX!!! This is the best resource out there
for all levels of exercise.
How have you incorporated the TRX into your workout
routine/lifestyle?
My TRX is used daily. It has unmatched facility specifically
with stretching. My clients LOVE it. They look forward to using it and see it
as the best part of their workout! I personally use it to maintain my lean
muscle mass, build core strength and balance.
As I previously mentioned, the TRX has allowed me to rehab
my injuries and provide strength in these areas that would’ve needed weights
and a more demanding time frame. Having 2 TRX systems allows me
to train my client at the same time I perform the exercises with them. So most
days I work out on it 6-8 times.
Where do you typically workout using your TRX?
I have my own studio where the TRX is attached to my squat
rack and ceiling mount.I also take the TRX to a local college were I use it in intervals,
stair training and circuits with my clients. They really enjoy having
a great strength workout outside.
What are your fitness goals?
My fitness goals are to continue on this wonderful path of
great nutrition and balance. I will always strive to educate myself and expand
my knowledge of fitness. This includes and is not limited to, learning and reconstructing different
training programs, recipes for healthy eating, and looking forward to being
stronger and healthier as I grow older. In order for me to represent true
fitness and a healthy lifestyle to my clients and business I don't just
"talk the talk" but I will always "walk the walk" and set a
real example to my clients so they can benefit from my example. My ultimate
fitness goal it to show them how fitness can become their lifestyle and not
just a quick-fix to loose weight!
How do you stay motivated?
Motivation to me comes from within and having that constant
reminder on how awful I felt during my "injured years." I
know that I never want to feel that way again. Now that I am the healthiest I
have been inside and out. I am so motivated to continue on making myself more
complete and even healthier in every way. Also, after opening my business, my
clients have achieved wonderful results and are a constant
reminder to me how fulfilling it is to helping others. There really is no
better motivation than that!
What does it mean to you to be fit and why do you think it
is important?
Being fit is the ultimate package. I am a strong believer
that nutrition is the biggest part of the package. The body needs to be
properly fueled and supplemented. Once this is in place, your body can function
and balance can start to
be achieved. Incorporating exercises according to your
level and expanding them to meet your goals and making sure to be adding
proper rest and sleeping to your routine will then lead you on a path to true
fitness. Being fit comes when all the elements of this package come together and
body has accepted them without stress or disruption to the key
ingredient of balance.
Anything else you would like to add?
Besides having my own studio for personal training, I
am actively pursuing opening a larger studio to incorporate TRX
group classes. I love when the TRX is put in a class setting with music and
adrenaline. I am looking forward to providing this awesome class to the Santa
Clarita Valley sometime this year!
