What types of things must you absolutely do to succeed – and what types of things must you avoid? Seriously, take a moment and think about it.
As for myself, I've cut out soda entirely, even energy drinks. Thats definitely a big one I didnt see you mention intentionally or not. Monster, Rockstar, Red Bull, etc... they are like 20% worse than soda! I remember watching the news one night, and some scientists done some studies on how energy drinks effect the teeth. So what they did is let a fake tooth much of the same makings as enamel and protein in the human tooth, and let it soak in a glass with energy drink in it. Can't remember which one, but that doesn't really matter... The result? The tooth completely dissolved, which goes to show that energy drinks will literally rot away your teeth over time. Now that example was on a high extreme, but what that did in x amount of hours being completely immersed in it, will actually happen to your teeth over x amount of years. I can vouch for that myself. I had a tooth start to slowly chip away back around 2006 or so. By January of this year, 2009, I had to have it pulled out, as it was impossible to save it. The tooth rotted almost to gum level. Now I'm sure there were multiple factors in that, but the 1 - 4 energy drinks I consumed daily I'm sure played a big part in the decaying process.

Something I'd like to add to that, is there are multiple alternatives to energy drinks; most important one I think we've all established at least a base on, is exercise. When you workout, you using your limbs, and you tend to have more energy. On top of that though, as you previously mentioned, eating right. It has a lot less energy cost to digest food 5 - 6 times a day, then to digest massive meals 1 - 3 times a day. As mentioned in The Metabolism Advantage, when you feel hot after eating a big meal, that's because of TEF (Thermic Effect of Feeding), which burns calories while digesting the food. Well therefore, if it has to digest huge meals, its going to consume a lot of energy to push that food down through the intestines, and make you tired.

And then you have supplements. I take a B-50 Complex that I buy at Costco which has a few B vitamins in it, that helps provide a stable flow of energy throughout the day, but of course you still have to eat, or Vitamin B is useless! I also take a multi vitamin, and fish oil capsules.

But if you are just dying for an energy drink, when you walk into 7-11, just frown at the Monsters and Rockstars. Arizona started making this "Herbal Tonic Rx" which has all natural ingredients to provide stable regulated energy. It isn't too bad sugar wise, and it costs less than energy drinks also. The 7-11 by my house sell Airzona's for $1, which is cool. Xing Tea almost makes an "Energy" tea.

Just wanted to add those points, because I know energy drinks are a very big problem in America these days, anyone from kids to 50 - 60 year old adults are consuming them daily, and its slowly eating them away a little bit a time so to speak...

Thanks,

Justin

For some reason I keep thinking its called Metabolic not Metabolism. Maybe its all these TRX Metabolic Circuits I've been doing...

I'm reading your "The Metabolic Advantage" book right now. Up to Chapter 5 at the moment. The knowledge and clarity you show in the book makes it very helpful to understand concepts. I'm not a graphs guy like you , more of a kinesthetic learner myself, but even the graphs are very informative nonetheless.

I know once I have the ability, I'll definitely be buying the Precision Nutrition program!

I'm actually on my way to Costco tonight to get some Fish Oil capsules, and Milk Protein blends to get started. Not sure if I'll have enough for Greens supplements, and Creatine, so I may have to get those in a couple weeks, but the protein and fish oil should at least get me off to a good start.

Thanks taking the time to prove all the old myths wrong and giving us all hope to regain and conquer our metabolism!

Thanks,

Justin
