    My 12 Weeks

I started the FORCE program this last weekend.  I've done the first two workouts and I am really looking forward to the next 46.

Between the beginning of the year and now I was a regular in the pool, avg 5000 yds/week, until about 2 weeks ago.  Work got busy and I stopped swimming.  Now things are calming down and I’m going to try to get back into a routine.  Yesterday was Day 2 of the TRX FORCE 12 Week Training program.  It seems to be a well written and thoughtout strength program.  I have not started the running plan yet.  Maybe tonight if I leave work at a decent time.  In a perfect world I would do the running plan and swim on the "other cardio" days.

The hardest part of completing this workout is that I will be working out by myself in my basement.  There is something to be said for going to the gym and having that place set aside for nothing but workouts.  There are so many distractions at home.  If anyone has any suggestions for avoiding the temptations that will draw me away from my workout, please let me know!

I will try to post updates on my progress and thoughts about the program as I work through it.

    Until then. . . . .

Get some good music, or if you'd rather watch TV while you work out; and do it at the same time each day so it becomes a routine and people know not to disturb you. I know the trouble, it's been the same for me.

I have a hard time staying focused if I work out in my living area too, so I like to take it outside.  Obviously that doesn't work in the middle of winter, but now that spring is around the corner, if you can find a park or other suitable area, just getting out of the house (even if it's just to the back yard) might help establish a distraction free zone.

Thanks for the suggestions.  It's the case of knowing what to do and just having to force myself to do it!

Yesterday was an off day for the strength but I did go for a run.  First run in a while and it felt good.

So I only got through week 1.  Here I go again, attempt number 2.

Hey Grant, I've just started the Force program too. I've found that forcing myself to blog about each workout helps keep me focused on working out each day, since the public record is there. In case you are interested, I've been blogging about my workouts here:

I wish you success in your journey through the Force program!

    Re: Starting over!

    Hi all

I just started with the TRX and the Force program. Have been playing around with it for a week or so just getting familiar with it and started on the strength training program recently. Program 1 with the legs was definite hard work and loved the burn I was feeling after it and then I back up for program 2 (upper body). OUCH.

The suspended incline press almost killed me for a start, but at least this week I could manage to get and keep both legs in the air. I felt the burn most of the way through and for a few hours after and then I went to bed and woke up this morning - almost unable to straighten my arms due to the muscle pain in the biceps near the elbow. But pain in a good way. What a work out.

    Re: Starting over!

Keep it up James!  I got a few weeks in again and had to switch my focus to swimming because I did the swim leg for a relay in the Chicago Triathlon.

Now, I am doing p90x but trying to use TRX type moves when possible.  The plan is to switch back to the FORCE program after p90x.  I think it'll work out really well.

The reason for the switch?  It's nothing against the TRX program.  My wife wants to try p90x and it's nice to be able to torture ourselves together.  I've found that the FORCE program takes considerably less time; p90x takes nearly 90mins 6 days per week!  It's taxing to say the least.
