I've got fairly long arms so this wasn't much of an issue for me, but I know that it is for others. What worked well for a couple people I know was to elevated themselves on a set of dumbells (hex style, you don't want them rolling away), KBs, Perfect Pushups, thick books, whatever. Basically, you just want a platform or a handle that will elevate you a few inches off the ground; it won't take much and once you can get that little bit of clearance you need, you'll see a big difference in the intensity of the exercise. If you're lacking forearm strength, start with books or another flat platform since using the handle requires a little more coordination/strength.
Hope that helps!
