Interested in buying TRX / Workout Questions

     Hi everyone

I am very interested  in buying the TRX, but I'm not sure how the videos exercises work. I've been doing P90X for 2 rounds (150 days) as of today. I'm preparing for an upcoming operation and I want to get as strong as possible so my recovery will go smoothly. The TRX seems like a great piece of equipment for post surgery work, as well.

I like the breakdown of exercises in P90X...body parts broken down by days with cardio and stretching mixed in. How are the exercises broken down in the TRX videos? I was looking at TRX Essential: Strength and Force. Are the cardio workouts mixed together in the same workout as the strength workouts, and are the upper body exercises separated from the lower body, etc.?  I don't mean to compare the two-TRX vs. P90X- they are obviously very different.  I'm relatively new to the intense workout thang and don't have much of a knowledge base or reference point to begin with.

    Hope you can help.

    Thanks

    bill

Oh, well. I guess I'll look elsewhere...

Re: Interested in buying TRX / Workout Questions

I didn't reply at first because I'm not familiar with the P90X, but since no one else seems to be either I'll try my best to explain what you ask, but I cannot make any comparisons.

The Strength DVD is a single full body workout. The force DVD is somewhat split, with a lower body focus day 1, and upper body day 2.

The cardio workout is not mixed in, if you want a workout with strength training and cardio mixed together there is Cardio Circuit and Ropes & Straps.

There is some stretching at the end of the Strength one, but not the end of the force training.

Since you say you are somewhat new to intense exercise you might benefit most from the Essentials bundle, which includes the All Body Express, Essentials: Strength, Flexibility and Cardio Circuit.

The Force trainer is somewhat more intense, but misses out on a lot of what Fitness Anywhere has developed since it was published, such as the stretching components.

    Hope that helps,
    Max

Re: Interested in buying TRX / Workout Questions

Thanks for the reply. I guess I should have been more specific on how they break down their exercises, which I will do now.

    Example week 1-3:

    M- Chest & Back: Abs

    T- Plyometrics

    W- Shoulders & Arm: Abs

    Th- Yoga

    F- Legs & Back: Abs

    S: Kenpo X (Cardio/Karate )

    S- Rest or Stretch

I am one of those types that needs a set plan to follow...it keeps me motivated and on track. I also have some health issues, Crohn's Disease, so I need an exercise program that will give me some flexibilty for some of my severe flare-ups. The TRX looks like a nice piece of equipment that will enable me to continue to workout at any level and keep some muscle intact. When I flare, I sometimes go a few weeks without eating. When this happens I have severe muscle atrophy. Doing exercises like P90X  has enabled me to add some muscle growth so when I do flare, I won't have to start from scratch building myself up - it has limited the atrophy during those down times. It is also broken down where I can shorten the workout when I have a tough day.

So, that is where I was coming from in my initial post. The out of pocket cost of the TRX is steep, for me anyway, so I wanted to make sure I had all the specifics before making my decision.

    Thanks, again, for the response.

Re: Interested in buying TRX / Workout Questions

I have gut issues too, so I understand. Although a different problem from yours (viscerl hypersensitivity) you might like to know that using the TRX helps mine. I think it's all the core work.

The Force Training is the only one that has a set plan. It has 12 weeks like this:

    Mon: Lower body & Flexibility
    Tue: Upper body & Running
    Wed: Rest & Flexibility
    Thur: Lower body & Running
    Fri: Upper body & Flexibility
    Sat: Running
    Sun: Running

The running plan covers 4 different types of running, but there are no felxibility exercises included, but the DVD they have now is very good.

Once you have gotten past the first few weeks of the program it's easy to scale back by going to a previous week's exercises.
