Tips on Fixing Common Affiliate Mistakes

Generating Traffic for your Affiliate Site

There are several great ways to start generating traffic.  However, before you get started on generating traffic, make sure you do two things:

    1.  Read our Affiliate Program Terms and Conditions and Marketing Guidlines.  Here you will find the do's and don'ts for online advertising and more so that you're sure you're in compliance with our program.

    2.  Read the section below on developing content for your site.  What's the point of directing people to your site if there isn't anything interesting there for them when you get there?

So back to generating traffic.  We highly recommend that you initially reach out to your immediate network.  Send an email and let them know that you believe in the TRX and why.  For tips on sending out emails, visit our Affiliate Resource Center.

You can also explore Social Media (twitter, facebook, blogging).  See our recent posts on these topics and how to utilize the available tools to drive traffic and make the sale.

Another tactic that proves very successful for a lot of affiliates is CPC Advertising (Cost-Per-Click), such as Google, Yahoo! and MSN Adwords.  This can be costly and time consuming.  Be prepared to spend time and money to make this work for you!  And remember, read or Affiliate Program Terms and Conditions and Marketing Guidelines.  Here you will find IMPORTANT guidelines for using PPC Advertising with your TRX Affiliate Program.

Lastly, when using any of the above traffic generating initiatives, please always remember not to SPAM.  A good rule of thumb, if you don't want someone to send it to you, then don't send it to your friends, colleagues or even strangers!

    Website Design

KISS.  Keep It Simple, Silly.  Always keep this in mind when designing your affiliate website.  Try to get in the mind of the viewer and offer both images, video and copy in an easily digestible format.

When reviewing your site, try to look at it as if you've never seen it before (or as someone you know who really hasn't seen it).    As yourself the following questions:

    • Can you find what you're looking for easily?
    • Does it make sense?
    • Is everything laid out nicely on pages that don't scroll on forever and ever?
    • Are all the images clickable (a great place to use your affiliate weblink)?
    • Is all the video working properly and does it support the content you're providing?
    • Are there any broken links, typos or grammatical errors?

All of this makes a huge difference in convincing someone to make a purchase.  For access to the video and web banners we provide to TRX Affiliates, make sure you login to the Affiliate Resource Center.

    Developing Content

We've addressed this previously, but we cannot stress it enough--this is what will keep customers on your site reading and what will help you make the sale.  When making a purchasing decision online, the customer always wants enough information as possible to make sure they are making the right decision.  You can help them by giving them your 'expert advice': a great product review.  Use your experience and base of knowledge to give an honest, genuine review.  This will do far more for you in making the sale than flashy graphics or catchy copy.

When developing content be creative, you can design your own workouts to share, tell a funny story or hold your own contests/challenges.

Tip: Feel free to use the content you find in the TRX Online Community on your own website or blog.

    Online Advertising

We know it's temping to just slap a web banner on your site and hope that you make tons of money through an affiliate program.  We hate to break it to you, but it's not that easy.  Just like most merchants find, you have to convince people why they should purchase your product.  You need to support these banners with relevant content that will help bring the customer that much closer to putting down their credit card and clicking the submit order button.

Furthermore, if you promote more than just one product through affiliate programs, putting up a web banner for each product does not mean you have a great chance of making the sale.  All you've done is make your site look like times square.  Remember to focus and think of this through the customer's point of view.  Feed them one product at a time and remember to use relevent content (yes...that again) to help them make a purchasing decision.
