Am I ready for the force?

I'm 23 and used to be a 3-sport athlete, but haven't been all that active for the past 2-3 years and have subsequestly lost a lot of my endurance and packed on about 30 lbs (6 ft. 240lbs).  Looking for the best way to get back into form and I don't know if I'm in good enough shape to start with the Force program.

Between the standard home training bundle (and adding the train like the pros DVD for after I get acquainted) or the Force Bundle.

The great thing about the TRX, no matter what exercise, is that you can moderate it to fit any level of fitness you are at depending on how deep or shallow your body angle is to the ground.  So, if you're motivated and want to go from low intensity to high intensity than the Force DVD is good, and its a 12 week program that will get you over that initial hump of starting a program.  It gives you more bang for your buck, and you can even pick your own sound track to listen to during the workout.  Pretty cool.

One thing to be aware of,  with the Force TRX kit the foot cradles are a little bit bigger than the traditional TRX Professional Bundle.  Its made to wear boots are thick soled shoes with.  So, if you don't want to have big foot cradles then get the Professional Bundle which comes with the All body express, then add on the Force DVD.  And you can experience the best of both worlds!

    Hope this helps,

Re: Am I ready for the force?

    Hi nihner,

I'm a 27yo, moderate fitness level but predominantly running background with no real strength work. I got the force kit and am currently six weeks in and loving it. The first two weeks were tough just to get used to it but now I have the hang of it. As was mentioned, the best thing about the TRX is that you can adjust the difficulty as you progress and also increase the intensity by slightly modifying the sets.

As such I would think you could physically do this, just maybe not at the same difficulty or intensity that is first demonstrated on the DVD. Also if you do get it, remember the DVD is a sample of the workout at week five so your workouts and sets will be easier than demonstrated.

Also think as to what you want to get out of your workouts. I find the Force training schedule is very much focused on functional strength; lifting, hiking, leg strength, core and back strength. They even say as much on the DVD that it focuses on back strength and not really aimed at developing a big chest on that program (done to accomodate hiking with a loaded pack, etc which would otherwise cause back injury). That said, the TRX website has plenty of other exercises that you can incorporate into your own workouts.

Hope that the info is some help

    James

Thanks Hayley!  I didn't even think about the force set being made for boots.  I have pretty Big Feet (Size 12 double-wide) but I am certainly not woriking out in combat boots. so the the professional system would probably be better right? In any event I can always add on later if I move past the first dvd

I thought I would let you know that I have the force kit and have used it for over 8 weeks. I wear a size 10 trail running tennis shoe and I have never had a problem with my feet slipping out of the cradles.

    Good Luck,

    Steve

You kidding...I'm 65 and use TRX daily...sure after 5 yrs in USMC,,,25 yrs as a police officer I have remained in shape, but Aug 3,2009 while bicycling I fell on an unmarked grooved roadway, flown unconscious to shock trauma, two weeks later I got back on the TRX, yea lots slower. However, the TRX has helped get me back to some sort of fitness level. The fact  is you just gotta do it , NOW.
