    Where To Mount

My TRX arrived last night & I'm trying to decide where to mount it.  I have a large workout room in the basement with a high (8 feet) ceiling.  I have a TRX-X mount and all of the joists (2x8) are exposed, so a ceiling mount seems to be the best idea, esp since the only wall mount would be into the brick chimney base.

Anyway, my question: is it better to locate near a wall or in the middle of the room?  I'm thinking that a double joist location that would be 4 feet from the walls would be best, but I've not used the TRX much.

Looking at other posts, I found the answer in a previous thread, http://community.fitnessanywhere.com/forums/t/2067.aspx :  Thanks, Bruce!

Plan to have the following free space in and around the TRX, no matter the type of anchor you are using. You will be fine with most exercises if you have less space than this; as this would be the optimal spacing if you have the room:

    • Have 3/12 feet of free space on either side of you when facing the TRX. There are some core and leg exercises that incorporate side to side movements.
    • Have 10 feet of free space in front of the anchor point for exercises such as the balance lunge
    • Have a few feet of free space behind the anchor point for exercises like the low row. If you anchor to a wall or door, then you would be fine doing the exercise right to the anchor point

    Re: Where To Mount

I have a TRX mounted with the X-Mount from the ceiling in my basement. I have 3 1/2 feet of space on either side of the anchor point for horizontal movements (suspended pendulum, oblique leg raises, side squats). This is just about right for me (I'm 5' 6", so if you're taller, maybe add a 1/2 foot).

I have a couple feet of space behind the anchor point, giving me more room to do things like low rows. I can't remember how much space I have in front of the anchor point (not home right now), but optimally you want have enough space to do a balance lunge with the TRX fully extended.
