    Counting sets vs time exercises

    Hi:

    I have two questions:

    1) It is difficult to keep an eye on my watch when exercising. Is it ok to do 3 sets of 8 on each exercise? or maybe 8 or 10 reps each? or is timed exercise better?

    2) Someone told me that due to periodicity you need to stop the exercises that you are doing after 12 weeks. This is due to the fact your body will adapt and and your progress will stop or cease. The quick body DVD has only one workout on it. What are some other exercises that could take their place?

    M

As to part 1, get a gymboss timer. This works perfectly because you can set it up to beep after the work effort and after a different-length rest period, ie 60 seconds on with a 30-second rest.

Re: Counting sets vs time exercises

Your body will adapt to certain stresses certainly but it will not be necessary to complete stop the current program. One of the simplest ways of going about this is to substitute 1-2 new exercises every 3 weeks, be sure to progress across the exercise speed continuum where as you master a movement at one speed you can then graduate to faster speeds so long as you can maintain good form. Vary your rest periods and re-order the exercises will also work.

Using this combination of strategies will be sure to keep your body adapting, the workouts stimulating and ensure that you keep setting new limits

The website has a good selection of exercises that are not part of the all body express program and we will continue to talk about and post different exercises in the upcoming weeks
