    TRX and Kettlebells

OK, I've seen a few references to kettlebells on the forum, so I know that there are a few Kettlebellers lurking around.  I left my kettlebell at home on this deployment (big mistake) so I ordered a new one to be shipped here.  I'm going to start working kettlebells back into my routine (current routine is 2x days strong lifts, 2x TRX, 1x light cardio- new routine will be 2x kettlebells, 2x TRX, 1x strong lifts).  I'd like to incorporate the kettlebell into the actual TRX routine as well.  So far, the exercises I'm thinking will fuse best are the Suspended Lunge, the Atomic Pushup, Single Arm Bicep Curl, and the Suspended V-Up.

Suspended Lunge:  Hold KB in front at chest level as extra weight

Atomic Pushup:  Conduct atomic pushup then conduct renegade row with KB (obviously this would work better with two KBs, but one should still be OK as long as you work both arms equally).

Single Arm Bicep Curl:  Curl the KB with one hand and hold tight as you conduct TRX Bi Curl with the other hand

Suspended V-Up:  Use as an additional weight (may not be a good idea with a very heavy KB)

So that's what I've come up with so far.  Any ideas from the group?

I just got one of the Iron Woody Kettle Grips and am in the process of trying to figure out the same question. Right now I'm leaning towards supersetting exercises.

I can't help with that -- instead of using both at the same time, I've been working the TRX for a half hour or so, then supersetting TRX and stand-alone kettlebell work. My gut feeling is by using the two tools together, you may be lessening the value of both.

    Re: TRX and Kettlebells

i have developed a program i call triple threat trainining (my email triplethreattrainer@gmail.com) - that utilizes the kettlebell and a step with the TRX.  I have been doing this for almost 2 years and am very happy at the positive response that i have beeen getting from this program since i started publishing it on the web.  i use all those exercises and also the side wood chop with the suspended lunge and 2 different weight kettlebells in the atomic pushup with plank rows.  nothing is impossible.  also, during the workout, we drop the trx completeely and have a complete kettlebell 'interval section' or two( separate intervals are always possible for people who beleive they are compromising their 'pure' workout by fusing the two)  I am ALL about fusion.  it is not for the faint of heart, but for true animals.  I have been doing this  5 days a week with two different groups of people  - and there is one group that is much more intense which gives me alot more freedom and creativity in my programing. (love that!)  any other questions, please feel free to ask

That sounds like a pretty intense workout!  I'd like to check it out, do you have a website?  I agree that sometimes fusion detracts from a particular workout's "purity" and I also agree that, when done incorrectly, it can lessen the intensity of each workout.  That is why I planned to structure the new workout to allow for 2 days each of kettlebell or TRX specific training.  Still, though, the thing that first drew me to both kettlebell and TRX workouts was the flexibility and creativity that it allowed.  I've never been a real ironhead and I get bored easily doing dumbell curls followed by set after set of bench press.  I love the fact that it is almost impossible to run out of exercises using either TRX or Kettlebells and someone told me that if you get bored using the TRX you must be a boring person.  It's probably true that too much fusion will limit your ability to target specific muscles and "bodybuild," but I'm OK with that since my primary goals are general fitness and adaptability- kind of a Crossfit "keep your body guessing" (but with a balanced, macro-level structure) mentality.

    Re: TRX and Kettlebells

Hi Mike I too have integrated kettlebells into workouts with the TRX. I for one love the results I have gotten from joining the two together and just like you said you can never run out of combinations of exercises to put together for any given workout.I plan on using some of these combos with some of my clients that can handle the intensity and just yesterday my new workout partner performed a TRX and kettlebell workout with me and puked halfway through so just like an earlier poster said if you kick up the intensity it's definitely not for the weak minded or faint of heart.Good luck with your training and stay safe over ther in Afghanistan.
