Shoulders, biceps, triceps are shaping up really nicely. Stomach is getting flatter. And what made me really happy is that I live on the third floor, no elevator. Usually by the time I get to the top of the stairs, I am breathing a little heavy (I'm not fat, but am a smoker, I know, I know) but last night, I ran down the stairs to let my cat in then ran up the stairs with her. Sat down on the couch to check emails before I realized that I just ran up to the third floor and was breathing normally as I just went up one step.

Loving it!!

It's also having a great effect on my Argentine Tango dancing. More energy, less sweating, can dance longer than usual and much better balance, I am much more firmly connected to the floor.

So glad this TRX force kit exists.

Congrats Drew Brees

Congratulations to Drew on his huge first week of the regular season and NO Saints record 6 touchdown passes in one game.

Query:

Hi! I'm working on a feature for Fitness magazine on the
best ways to
prevent holiday weight gain, and I'd love to hear from real women about
how
they avoid overindulging at the food court, highway rest stops,
holiday
parties, the office kitchen, and more! For example, I heard from
someone
who schedules a personal training or Pilates session the morning after
a
holiday party so she doesn't overdo it and wreck the workout she has to
pay
for the next morning. I'm looking for surprising tips we haven't read
a
million times before! Thanks--

Loving the results of TRX training!

I've been using the TRX system consistently since approximately May 2009, starting with the Infamous TRX Workout posted in the Precision Nutrition program forums, and adding several strength, core, flexibility and conditioning DVDs from this site to my program since then. I'm loving the results! I've seen a great increase in my core strength, shoulder stability and rotational flexibility with the TRX system programs. For the past 4 years, I've been training to do aerial arts at a circus school - Spanish Web, silks, hoops, trapeze, etc. ( a whole different style of suspension training! ) This requires a lot of upper body and core strength, flexibility, balance, and lots of overall body conditioning. The TRX allows me to improve these aspects of my training program at home and in the gym, since I have limited access to the circus equipment outside of weekly classes. Although it's only been a few months so far with the TRX, I've made considerable progress in strength and body control on the equipment that I've not been able to get previously with more conventional weight and cardio conditioning training. I just wanted to say thanks to Fitness Anywhere for the great TRX programs!

Whats your fitness goals?

Hey everyone,

I thought I'd do something fun and interesting, and at the same time get to know everybody in the Community a bit better while I'm at it.

I'd like to hear what your fitness goals are, what the timeline is you set for your goals, and how you are doing at your present goal. Perhaps you had a goal and you recently fulfilled (or didn't fulill it but that's ok too ... sometimes it takes time to get it right) it. I'd be interested in hearing about that too.

And what have you been doing to acheive that goal? The TRX I'd imagine is part of it , but what else do you do in preparing to meet that goal? And so on.

So to kick it off, I'll do the first one below.

I hope to see your responses soon!

Triple Your Income

Hi I am Brandon Bittorf a top fitness professional and former pro cyclist in Ventura Ca. I just wanted to share with TRX community my own personal success. I knew when I first saw the TRX it would be my golden ticket. Today, I would have never guessed that the TRX would triple my income and make my business a success it is today. I am approached daily by other trainers who to take a look at, you would have to think they had just lost a family member. All they want to talk about is how their business is suffering and then they ask me how I like the TRX… Come and get real, I have 1 TRX Bootcamp and 4 TRX group training sessions out of my studio, I only have 15 spaces that’s it and I am sold out every month. After walking around this year at IHRSA, there is a lot of great stuff out there but nobody was looking at the equipment, why? Everybody was at the TRX booth working it! A huge thank you to Randy and Fraser and the entire staff at Fitness Anywhere. Brandon Bittorfwww.SantaBarbaraAbc.com

I've included pictures, but since it will only allow one pic at a time, please view the continued post for the after pic. Here's the story:

Paulina started out with the goal to just lose some weight, but after interviewing her and discovering that her passion was swimming. I encouraged her to not only to lose the weight but also to start swimming again, which she stopped before because of exercise-induced asthma due to an increase in weight.
I was determined to help Paulina not only reach her goals, but to gain the confidence she lacked to perform at the top her sport. I developed a workout plan, which integrated balance work, endurance training, and strength using the TRX. We started off slow, learning flexibility exercises first, and then gradually working into strength exercises at a low intensity. Eventually, the weight started to come off, and Paulina found the routines getting easier, so we progressed her onto more intense plyometric exercises on the TRX, as well as swimming specific exercises.
After 4 months into training, Paulina faced swim try-outs… and she made the team! She had an awesome season, swimming butterfly, and medley events, and eventually made it into regionals!
After all was said and done, Paulina lost 44 pounds, made the swim team, is no longer bothered by exercise induced asthma, and is looking forward to incorporating the TRX into future workouts.
Hayley Hollander

“I am so glad I decided to get a personal trainer. It's helped me lose so much weight and feel really good about myself. I now absolutely love to workout and have a healthy lifestyle, and I owe it all to my awesome trainer Hayley! Her workouts with the TRX are always fun and challenging and have gotten me into such good shape. But, Jonathan’s enthusiasm was contagious, so, I gave TRX a try. Jonathan adapted some exercises to my needs and others were just like the videos at the TRX website; he demonstrated each exercise and then had me do it to ensure that I was doing it correctly.

It was a little confusing at first but I caught the hang of it and started using TRX 5x per week.
I am a personal trainer who trains very hard and has been for years using weights and conventional forms of resistance exercise. Over the last few years of training I have been incorporating more unconventional styles and movements into my routines and those of my clients. With my recent purchase of the TRX force bundle it has brought my training to a whole new level. I have been in Florida visiting friends for the past two weeks and will not return until the first week of August. I have not touch a weight, dumbbell or barbell and will not for the next month. My body feels amazing and I am excited to see what 8 weeks of TRX/ body weight only movements has done for my overall physique. If anyone has any input or thoughts I would love to hear from you. I will keep everyone updated with progress and would love to share the workouts with anyone! Train Hard!

The holiday workload put a damper on his regularly scheduled fitness regimen and his coffee breaks turned to cookie breaks. Working at a fitness company, there is this underlying pressure that you must be in top shape based on the fact you have access to what you consider the best piece of equipment for a total body workout (and fellow fitness enthusiast colleagues to keep you motivated).

As the January Fitness Resolutions were being made around the country, Ian decided he would jump on the bandwagon and see if he could start the New Year off with a new fitness goal…lose 20lbs. We are one month in and Ian is on his way. Here are a few quick stats:

LBs lost to date: Chocolate and cheesy pizza.

Substitutions that surprised you: Vegetables instead of carbs-thanks to the easy to follow recipes in the Gourmet Nutrition cookbook, it inspired Ian to try different spices and different ways to have some fun with greens.

Key learnings: “Be realistic about your progress and time frames. As much as we wish things would happen as quickly as they do on TV, a healthy lifestyle is a work in progress. This year I am not putting a time limit on my goal. I am going to take it off and keep it off the right way - hard work and healthy living.”

What the future entails: Stay on target. No yo-yoing…Take 20lbs off and keep it off!

TRX Outdoor Group Classes

Hey all,

I just wanted to take a minute to share with you a video I made about the TRX Group classes we do outdoors in Las Vegas, NV. In the video you can see the versatility the TRX offers for places that classes can be held. We’ve had great response and interest from the community in the classes, and usually there is a crowd standing around watching in the park when we do the classes. Which is awesome, because it ends up being free marketing, and we hand out a bunch of business cards, as well as collect more emails for a database. Here is the link.

We’ve done a couple of things to help promote the classes in Las Vegas. For example, we offer a cheaper rate when the students prepay, and more expensive the day of class. We also give them 2 free classes if they buy a TRX through us, and then the classes are cheaper than everyone else whenever they bring their own TRX to class. We hold contests each class, with TRX product (ie- DVD’s, etc) for a prize, which encourages them to get one for themselves and use the TRX more on their own.

I would love to hear what you guys are doing with the TRX? How are you incorporating the TRX in your business? Are you doing classes? What have you found that works?

Hayley

The horror of waiting began...

The 4th of december I received an update: my TRX is leaving the States... can't wait, checking my email every day for progress

- still checking... ohw c'mon, when does it get here!!!

- still checking... sometimes even twice a day... I want to get started

- still checking, starting to feel like a little kid, waiting to unwrap it's birthday presents... but there ain't no present!

- but today.... "Your item is being processed by customs in NETHERLANDS" ...... YAY!!! Let's hope they hurry up :)

Just for fun, I tried atomic push ups today, in the rings.

Came up with a nice variation... Maybe I can get one of my students to make a couple of pics today :)... just explaining it won't do, I fear.

Tib/Fib Spiral Fracture Recovery

8 weeks post-op and the TRX has been my sole source of strength reconditioning and cardio exercise (and a savior at that). The core routine has been very helpful not only with keeping the atrophy in-check and localized to my lower leg, but as a general full body workout. The folks at Fitness Anywhere have been very helpful in modifying several of the standing routines to work with my non-weight bearing status - and even demonstrated (in the San Francisco studio) how to take a fall and still avoid loading my injured leg.

The TRX has been a perfect recovery tool: easy to use, portable, and incredibly flexible in its application. Combined with the supervised physical therapy, it has contributed significantly to my recovery.

I strongly encourage those considering a post injury routine to give the TRX a try. On top of just feeling good being active again, it has helped to restrict the physical and mental limitations imposed by being on crutches full time.

I’ve been a competitor in Lumberjack Sports since the age of 7, and this past summer was by FAR my best yet. I started the season off very well with a win in the ESPN STHIL Timbersport Series, and finished even better winning both the log rolling and boom running events at the Lumberjack World Championships. I have no doubt in my mind that my daily TRX training played a huge factor in my success.

On top of that, I tore my ACL in the middle of my season. Surgery was advised, but I wasn’t ready to give up my chances at the world championships. Under the guidance of a physical therapist, I used my TRX to bring back the necessary strength and stability in my leg which apparently worked, because I went on to win!

I used to be on the Jersey Boy Beach Bod special routine (anyone from the Tri-State knows what I'm talking about). A typical routine would look something like this: Monday- Bis/Tris, Tuesday- Chest, Wednesday- Flex in the mirror. Needless to say, I wouldn't recommend anyone use this...

Since changing things up and using nothing but the TRX and Kettlebells over the past 9 months, I've gained huge functional strength, flexibility, and corrected various work-related ailments (bad back, knees, etc) that were bothering me. Besides that, though I've noticed the following:

- Broader chest and shoulders

- Clearly defined, solid midsection (as opposed to just a "six pack")

- Stronger, more defined legs

- Stronger, thicker, more defined back muscles

In general, the best way that I can describe my improvements is that I have a much more balanced, coordinated, lean look about me. I am still pretty thin (6'2" 188lbs) but whereas before I looked "skinny" now I feel more "trim." To say that I'm a convert would be an understatement.

I'm curious to hear what everyone else feels is their biggest "gain" since changing the way they train.

Training for NASA astronaut selection with the TRX

What do you do when you need to lose 25 lbs. and reinstate your cardiovascular fitness before a possible astronaut interview, and do it all in 3 months? I can't speak for everyone, but I know what I'm doing - I'm calling on the TRX and the crew at Fitness Anywhere to help.

Here's the deal: I'm a Canadian who moved to the U.S. in 1996, intent on applying to the NASA astronaut program. For most of my life I've been pretty fit, swimming competitively during grade school, playing football through high school, and rowing through college and then afterwards with the Canadian Lightweight Rowing Development Team during the mid-90's. After working in the U.S. for 5 years (and earning a green card in the process), I went back to school to earn MS degrees in Electrical Engineering and Aeronautics/Astronautics, and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, all from Stanford University. I became a US citizen in 2006, and this year I am eligible - for the first time! - to apply to the NASA astronaut selection. Trouble is, the last few years of the Ph.D. program were tough, and through damn good eating and a lot of new sedentary habits, I got a bit plump...which is frowned upon in the astronaut office.

Enter Fitness Anywhere and the TRX. I met with Randy Hetrick and Chris Frankel, who agreed to help me to get back into shape for the astronaut selection process. I suggested doing a blog to document the process, and so here we are. Over the next few months, this blog will document my progress in terms of my health and fitness goals. I will also blog my experience with the astronaut selection process (should I have any). Here is my starting point:

1) Weight today is 208 lbs; goal is 190 lbs. by November 1, 2008. Kinda like 'Super Size Me' in reverse.

2) My cardio fitness is poor, but I have yet to measure it. The measure will probably be in terms of 5- and 10-km run times.

3) I have applied to the astronaut program, and I have a one-on-one meeting set up with the head of the NASA astronaut selection office for August 19th at Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX. The meeting was set up by an astronaut acquaintance of mine, who has flown 4 space shuttle missions (connections are a good thing).

I want to emphasize the fact that I have no idea whether or not I will get an astronaut interview, even - let alone the job. In that sense, this blog is a thrill to me - whether I succeed in this training program that Fitness Anywhere has so generously supported is completely up to me and my ability to stay focused and disciplined. And whether I succeed in the astronaut selection process depends on a lot more than that - when 3000-4000 people apply for 20 or so positions, as is the case with the astronaut program, a lot needs to be going your way for you to get the gig.

Thank you Jonathan Ross

I wanted to give a special shot out to Jonathan Ross. His presentations about the TRX system at the DCAC Conference were excellent. I was extremely impressed with his professionalism, attention to detail and knowledge of fitness and the TRX Suspension system. It truly is a phenomenal piece of fitness equipment.
