I was with my Physical Therapist this morning and she confessed to taking advantage of the intro classes at the Fitness Anywhere studio in San Francsico. She is a genuine fan of the TRX and has worked to integrate her recovery plan with my use of the TRX.

Robert, turn your PT on to the web site and ask them (if they are not already familiar with the product) to look at it in terms of adding to your home recovery program. I hate to sound like such a testimonial, but the TRX took nearly a month off of my recovery - today I went from crutches to a cane.

Thanks very much for the suggestions and the encouragement. I am glad that your "down time" has been reduced. That must feel great! I will be reevaluated in two weeks to see how healing is progressing and if there is any problem with the hardware installed. Space is definitely the "final frontier" here as the temp bed really fills the room, but I am doing what I can. Have a couple new ideas I will try this week and will review the other DVDs for new variations. Picked up a new toy to help with the aerobic recovery once I can bear weight and hope to incorporate that into some TRX workouts to optimize my exercise time.
Thanks again for your reply. A shot of encouragement goes a long way.

Best wishes for your full and speedy recovery.

The docs originally thought it would be 4 months before I could put weight on my leg/foot, and its moved up an entire month, in (large) part due to the general strength training I've been able to get in on the TRX.

I completely with you on the limited space. So that I was certain to use it, I set the TRX up in my bedroom (wedging the door anchor in the jamb of the closet door - as opposed to simply tossing it over the top and closing the door) which also allowed me to thieve pillows from the bed to make for a softer landing when I would lose my balance and inevitably swing in toward the bed/door. Falling - by the way - was a made significantly "easier" by rotating to my ass and tucking both legs up (this only happened a few times before it ceased being an issue).

As for modified routines, most of the standing upper body exercises could be done from a sitting position (with both feet raised for greater core/balance influence) which helped; and the ab and glute routines had to done either with the injured leg flat on the floor, or (as its ROM improved) simply tucked in the cradle which helped with maintaining movement and muscle memory - though only retarded the atrophy. I recommend the Core Strength and All Body Express DVDs - though at some point I kept hoping for less of that Frasier guy in my daily routine.

Good luck with the recovery - it really will go by quickly.

Thanks for posting this. I am at 3 weeks post op for a displaced fracture of my fibula and will be non-weight bearing for at least three to five more weeks. Would you be willing to share any of the modifications that allowed you to safely use the TRX? When were you able to start your modified program? I give much credit to my TRX workouts for limiting the damage to just my ankle, but can get pretty glum about the inevitable atrophy. i have some space restrictions for my TRX use now as we had to put a temporary bed in the one room where the TRX can be used, but any suggestions you (or anyone) would be willing to share would be most appreciated.

Best wishes and hope your recovery is quick and complete.

The core routine has been very helpful not only with keeping the atrophy in-check and localized to my lower leg, but as a general full body workout. The folks at Fitness Anywhere have been very helpful in modifying several of the standing routines to work with my non-weight bearing status - and even demonstrated (in the San Francisco studio) how to take a fall and still avoid loading my injured leg.

The TRX has been a perfect recovery tool: easy to use, portable, and incredibly flexible in its application. Combined with the supervised physical therapy, it has contributed significantly to my recovery.

I strongly encourage those considering a post injury routine to give the TRX a try. On top of just feeling good being active again, it has helped to restrict the physical and mental limitations imposed by being on crutches full time.
