Substitute exercises for injured lower back

Hiya I am new to the TRX and have started on the first part of the Military Fitness program, however I am suffering from lower back pain caused by very tight hamstrings so I am struggling with anything that involves the lower back (I am doing a number of recommended exercises and stretches to help with this and slowly my pain and mobility is returning). However while my back heals I would appreciate anybody suggesting a few substitute exercises I could do which focus on my upperbody to replace those that require some lower back strength/mobility i.e Hip Press, Hamstring bicycle.

    Any suggestions greatfuly recieved,

    Rgds

Re: Substitute exercises for injured lower back

Why not just put in some recovery exercises for your lower back in those spots. That said, the military program has enoungh upper body in it, but if you want, maybe you could pick something you need to work on and put it in one of those spots (pushups, body rows, etc). Also, maybe a lower body or core exercise. Instead of a Hip Press, do a Front Plank. Instead of a Hamstring Curl or Bicycle, maybe some Heel (aka Calf) or Toe (aka Shin) Raises. If you think something is overlooked, like Shrugs or another Neck exercise, put that in. Add a grip exercise if you think you could use it.

The healthy back DVD would probably be better for you right now than the MFp. It has a lot of exercises targeted at losening the hamstrings.

You can view two of the best ones for hamstrings on the product's page:

Thanks for the replys that all makes sense, didn't realise there was a specific back program so I am going to invest in that.

    I hope it helps.

It's a good program, you can my review of it here: http://community.fitnessanywhere.com/forums/t/1025.aspx

There should be a new review there tonight as well, or tomorrow morning, depends when I write it.
