    MMA (Middle-age Mom Anaerobic) Workout

    Hello fellow TRXer's!

I want to first off say, that I am (and still am, as I type this) very hesistant to even post these videos. See, I am a very "fly under the radar" kinda girl. Not to mention not very tech savvy.  So, I'm not even sure if they'll show up if I post them!!  We (me and gojengo from the trx community) thought we'd post what our typical workout looks like these days. We LOVE our trxs and our kettlebells. And we're very much into "fusion workouts".  We shot this video last Saturday morning at our local middle school track. Which is where we got the catchy title from . . .  middle age moms at the middle school. We just wanted to demonstrate the versatility and "no excuse" mantra of the trx. (I realize I'm preaching to the choir, but in case someone reading this may be thinking of purchasing one).  We hung our trxs on the football goal posts and used the grassy area on the inside of the track for our kettlebell work. For those of you following the WOW threads, this was a great trx/kb fusion workout. Equipment needed: trx,kb and a timer. Our timer only times up to 8 rounds. So it ended up being very "tabata-ish".  We went for a minute on and 20 s rest. There are 2 parts. 8 exercises in each. All exercises can be regressed if needed. If you're not sure how, just shoot me an email and I can help w/ that. I thought it was a pretty tough workout. We ran through the workout in its entirety, then taped it. When we taped it, we just did a couple of reps of each exercise b/c we were running out of time. Hope you find the workout useful or at least get your laugh for the day, at my expense!!!Wink  And we apologize that we don't have the video set to some kind of super motivational music. Like I said, my technical skills are limited!! So, you'll just have to bear w/ gojengo's commentary!!!  Smile

Wow that looks like it would be one hell of a workout Janine. Now I see how you get such great scores on the WOW. There is definitely a few exercise in the video that I am gonna have to try out. The one where you touch your knee to the ground and then bring it to the opposite elbow looks brutal. Great job and great video and don't worry about the technical part because most of us are'nt very technical ourselves.

Next time you could have one of you do part one, the other part two. Just an idea... Stick out tongue

Looks like a great workout and you are in great shape. Doesn't look like you're middle aged, but then again that's why you're not afraid to use that term.

I finally was able to get on a civilian computer to check out these videos (our network settings block youtube and most other streaming videos).  Awesome job, I really liked the workout.  You two are really creative when it comes to mixing stuff up.  My favorites:  the KB swing with a side-step and the TRX row with a hop.  I tried both the other night and found that they were considerably more tiring that they looked!

I agree--those rows with the hop were WAY harder than they looked. I hadn't really thought about how tired my quads would get with that one, but they were exhausted after the first 60 sec...then I had to do the other side! Loved side-step KB swings, too--again, harder than it looks, and my heart rate was way up after that one. I went into it thinking I would do two rounds, but was humbled quickly and only did one--which was all I needed. Great workout as usual--I expect nothing less from you girls!!

Re: MMA (Middle-age Mom Anaerobic) Workout

Thanks Lisette and Kim!!! Your notes made my day.You will LOVE your TRX. I am all about "no excuse" workouts. Let's face it, we're all busy. This is life - it's not going to change. So we can either be busy fit or busy fat. I chose busy fit!!! Big Smile  As a working mom, I totally get it. It's all about choices and making fitness work in your day to day life. And finding something you love. Thank goodness for Fitness Anywhere!! Finally a product that matches what I preach to my clients and how I live my life.  I have created quite a few programs on the TRX. As a "middle age mom" I have found what works for me and what doesn't. For instance, you will never catch me doing the pendulum swing. Just thinking about it hurts my right hip! But knowing what to replace it w/ is key. So if you need any help w/ modifications or substitutions feel free to shoot me an email.

Re: MMA (Middle-age Mom Anaerobic) Workout

Janice, I was thinking of you tonight when I did one arm presses on the TRX, I was only using @60% of my weight but trying to work against the single point was wild! I got 15 out but my arms are still shaking. I need to build up the strength in my right (dominant) arm oddly enough. I don't have much grip strength due to breaking that wrist 3 times. So while I can do 15 power pulls on the left I can only get out 3-4 on the right without my grip giving out.
