    Suggestion: Exercise Cards

    Locked Reply Contact

I own seven DVDs, a bunch of posters, and took the first class offered so I have the exercise book.  Obviously there are a lot of exercises for the TRX.  What there isn't, is a way to organize the exercises in one place.

My suggestion is this.  Why not develop something like a set of cards with one exercise per card (something like the exercise examples you give with the DVDs.)  Anyone could then select a dozen of so cards for a workout.  Better yet, if you also had a plastic sleeve to put a dozen cards in - something like what you offer with the Xpress workout - us TRX heads can customize workouts to our hearts content.  I can imagine all sorts of varations with exercise regressions and progressions added as needed (e.g. can't do the suspended incline press, well pull that card and put in a regressed version).  You have some of the information on the posters but cutting the posters up doesn't quite do the trick.

Anyway, love the TRX and the support, thanks.

Kinda like Baron Baptiste's "The Yoga Bootcamp Box". Cool product. I LOVE my laminated yoga cards. As a very  NON-yogi, I can pick specific poses and stretches that I need and fuse some together. Hmmmm, interesting concept w/ the TRX.

Excellent Idea.  I am not very good at designing my own workouts, this would go a long way in helping me.

Ooooh, Yes Please! Pretty Please!!!!! The TRX is so portable the DVDs less so. I'd love to throw a couple of cards into the bag, pack up and take it all on vacation with me.

Here's a little something I put together (actually, it took a long time for me to do).

From the DVD that comes with the TRX as well as all the videos that have been online at one point or another, I compiled screen shots of various exercises.

This is my amateur attempt at exercise cards. It's not perfect - they don't have all the technical details of all the exercises - but it's enough to remind me of the major movements.

    It's a 12.4mb PDF file of about 44 exercises, each on a 4x6 sheet.

    What I do:

I separate each exercise into 3 categories: lower body, upper body & abs/core. I then print the exercises on a 4x6 index card and then laminate each of them (of course, otherwise we'd sweat all over them). And finally, for each category, I use a different color index card so they are easily identifiable by type of exercise.

I then take all of cards, punch holes in them and then put them in an index card binder and take them wherever I go.

I hope you guys find some use for these and comments are welcome.

In return for sharing these, the ONLY thing I ask is: if anybody else has done something similar and/or have some exercises to include that I don't already have, please share it with the rest of us so we all can build our own collection.

    Enjoy,

    Tony

     Thanx, Tony

Great Job. I travel a lot recently and I appreciate an Exercise Library that fits into my "Gym in a bag". Hopefully, somebody will add the Flexibility Exercises or Healthy Back Exercises as well?!

If anyone does: Thanx in advance.

    Greetings,

     Olaf

    Thanks Tony.

I'd hope the company picks up on this but until then, maybe we can just do our own and share.  Since Tony started with 4X6, I'll use that in designing my cards.

Tony you're an angel! and that must have taken forever to do!!!!

This isn't about exercise cards but something I've learned working in science is that if you are trying to get results you need to record data. So you need a way to measure the data that you can record. One of the advantages of the TRX is that it is infinitely customizable, unfortunately that means that it is really hard to measure what angle your body is at or exactly where you put your feet or whatever for a particular exercise. One thing I have done is set up a yoga mat with markings every 15" down the length of the mat and I put the mat about 1' out from directly below the anchor point. Yes, this is anal -I mentioned I work in science right? Then as I am doing my exercises I can record which line I am on and try to work toward the next more difficlut body position. Does that make any sense?

    Tony,

I just saw your post and the PDF file and wanted to say thank you for doing this. I work for the Coast Guard and I've been using the TRX in unit workouts I've been leading for a while. This just made my job 100 times easier.

     Great job!

     Hey licarrit,

that´s a nice idea, but you have to record the strap length as well to make your results more reliable!

But I wonder what kind of results you want to get? If you are looking for an increased fitness level you could also use the Borg scale (aka "Ratings of perceived Exertion"), which is easy to use, needs no equipment and is very reliable.

If you are looking for hard facts, you should attatch your TRX to a dynamometer (every two month or so) and then you´ll see how much weight you can push or pull.

    Greetings,

    Olaf

Tony those cards you made are pretty cool.  They must have taken you a long time to put together.

One world, one body, one mind, one soul,
Being kind to these is the goal,
Living a healthy and full life is great,
Even if a person started late,
It's okay as long as you don't procrastinate,
So get out there and do it.
