Building a frame for TRX classes

Hi all. We are looking to add a TRX-based class to our programs and need to construct a frame of some sorts to suspend them from. Unfortunately the frame offered by Fitness Anywhere will not work for our location. If anyone has constructed such a thing and could share some details and/or pics it would be very helpful. Thanks, Mike

What are the dimensions of the training area?

... and what are the limitations of the Fitness Anywhere frame for your space?  Meaning what about the frame won't work?  Height?  Width?  Price?

There are several factors about the TRX frame that won't work. 1. Ours needs to be 28.6 feet long (wall to wall in our room). 2. The angled legs of the TRX frame would put one of them directly in front of the door to the room. 3. It would be cost prohibitive to buy AND SHIP it to Canada. We are looking to build it 8' high.

How about using the multi mount?

You can attach it to the wall at what ever height you like.

Given the structure of the walls I think a free-standing frame would work better.

    How about the ceiling's strength?

Do you want something you can take out of the room? If not you cound get a few squared off logs cut to spesification and make a frame from that. I saw photos on here of a US military training camp using something like that. *looks for photos*.

I can't find the photos. Maybe I dreamed it, or they are on the Force Training DVD.

Ceiling mounting was a consideration but due to some irregularities we think a free-standing structure will be easier to construct. I don't think the logs would go well with our decor. :) This is the room it will be going in:

Soooo... back to the initial question, has anyone here actually done this (built a frame to support multiple TRXs)?

Re: Building a frame for TRX classes

We were working on something like that out here, but it was more akin to Max's log idea than something that would look good in a professional gym.  Making a free standing thing may present a few challenges for you if you can't anchor it to the wall or the floor.  We found that even with a wide base, once you put a few people on it the thing would tend to sway.  That could easily be fixed with some sandbags or digging a pole and burying it in the ground, but again, I don't really think that's going to help you.  Is there any way for you anchor this thing, do you mind bolting something to the ground?

We do intend to bolt whatever structure we build to the floor.

Re: Building a frame for TRX classes

You could probably go with something fairly simple then.  Two upside down wooden T legs with a metal bar/pipe running across connecting each.  It would be easy enough to sand and paint the frame so it doesn't look too amateur and I think that if it was bolted to the ground it would be stable enough.  That said, I was a history major so you might want an Engineer or something to weigh in on this!!

Re: Building a frame for TRX classes

When i was out i saw a building site and had an idea for the frame

You could use scaffolding pipes for a really sturdy frame. Though a triangular end structure might be better than a simple T, since then it should stop any swaying. You would also want a support in the middle to prevent any sagging.

If you painted the scaffolding i don't think it would look out of place in your gym.

Any thoughts on going from the ceiling? What is above your drop ceiling tiles? There is a club in Okotoks, AB (Natural High) that came up with a very elegant way of doing it that was quite cost effective.
