TRX + Perfect Pushup = Evil!

As I recently injured my wrist (don't play 10 games of volleyball using a Soccer Ball instead of a volleyball!) I find it painful to support my weight on my hands during TRX exercises. To alleviate this discomfort I have been using my Perfect Pushup handles (http://www.perfectpushup.com) in conjunction with the TRX. This is simply evil! When doing the incline press on my hands I can consistently bang off 20. If I support myself on the PP handles I am lucky if I can get 10 to start. I have also been using them for the atomic pushups and every other exercise where I am supporting my weight on my hands. If you have a set of these and want to add some additional challenge to your TRX workouts give this a try.

As a middle ground you can use regular pushup bars. They don't rotate.

Exactly, or a set of hex dumbbells, which is what I was using prior to the PP handles.

I did some atomic pushups using the PP and cried. Literally curled up and cried. It wasn't pretty......

I first saw the Perfect Pushup in a late night infomercial, so i dismissed it. Is it good? What does it add to a standard pushup?

Mike thanks for the heads up.  I've been wanting to try it but scared too.  If i's as good as it sounds I can't wait I'll be attempting it tonight.

Re: TRX + Perfect Pushup = Evil!

Typically I have a lot of elbow issues from pushups. I have had tendonitis in both elbows and if I am not really careful with pushups it will aggravate it quite badly. The PP handles allow my hands to rotate the way they should, eliminating any elbow pain. For this reason alone I like them. Of course, it does add instability to the exercise which increases the challenge. I am not too much into gimmicks but if you have the money I think they are a worthwhile investment for a gym. Not a necessity but a fun addition.

It doesn't look like it would be hard, but those stupid handles make pushups a real challenge.  The rotation really brings your shoulders into play, if you rotate 180 degrees to do a punching like motion your biceps get a workout, and for some reason beyond my understanding your chest is smoked after a few sets.  I've found that I can do roughly 3x as many regular pushups as I can do PP pushups.  Like Mike said, not a mandatory piece of equipment by any stretch, but definitely a good investment if you like doing pushups (or are required to for PT tests).

Thanks, i've seen it in a store and it wasn't too much. I might get it soon. It's pretty small so no problem with space.

I'll post my thoughts if i get it.

I have a set of the PP handles and I will say that I have to agree with Mike. On a set of standard push up bars I can get double the reps I can do on a set of PP bars.

I did the TRX PP tongiht and it was killer.  I was thinking about turning some atomics with it but had to pass after completing 10.

What i saw in the store was something similar, i was passing today so i tried it out.

The product i found was a competing one called 'Megapex Pro'. I found the turning motion to be stiff and jerky, I had to force it to turn and it would move in small jumps. Is this the same with the perfect pushup? Or is it a smoother more natural gliding motion?

Alright, that's what I was expecting. I didn't get the MegaPex handles because of that. If the PP were the same i'd have gone back to get a set.

Definitely stick with the real deal; my PP handles turn smoothly and the construction is solid.  The price is dropping on them now making them the clear choice over the knock-offs.  They even have a travel version now that folds up, though I've never tried those ones so I can't vouch for their quality.
