    MTB1999.:

I like endurance events - solo 24 hours & two years ago I competed in the La Ruta de los Conquistadores in Costa Rica.  I failed to finish Day 1 & was still hospitalized for the start of Day 2.  I lost 15% of my body in 11 hours. I did finish Day 3.  It is now a 4 day race, however, the mileage is not that much different than the old 3 day format - it is still a race from the Pacific to the Caribbean through jungles & over volcanoes.  Truly a spectacular event.  My big goal is to go back in 2009 & complete the event. Check it out at www.adventurerace.com.

That looks sick!!  I want in.

Well, after 9 days in transit, I finally made it back to the states last weekend (11th).  Since then it's been a non-stop party and I'm sad to say that I've been slacking a bit on my training.  I'm still managing to get a quick workout in each afternoon/evening, but I've neglected a lot of my cardio in favor of staying in bed just a bit longer.   Tonight I'm going to go to sleep at a reasonable hour and actually get up so I can go on a run.  There is a great route that is literally about 3 miles of continuous uphill.  I plan on running up then doing a TRX workout at the top before coming back down.  I finally was able to look at the videos in blog section and that dude Dion is the man.  I'm going to try to find a good spot to give the TRX pullups a shot.

Re: Track Your Progress: 31-Day Fitness Challenge

I did some work with the perfect pushup. I think i need to do a lot of close pushups by themselves first though to build up my strength. My back might hurt less then.

I then did 5 minutes very intense jump rope. Generated a huge sweat.

Re: Track Your Progress: 31-Day Fitness Challenge

Just did the ABX. Keeping up for the full minute was hard core.

I had never done anything like the supine pull through before, so i will need to practise that a lot.

Now for a little jump rope. 'Little' was right... I managed about 70-80 jumps, but i started catching the rope a lot due to fatigue. I think this will probably help a lot for endurence during the fitness test.

Re: Track Your Progress: 31-Day Fitness Challenge

Tuesday: 45 minute run through the hills (got lost on the way and ended up tacking an additional mile on).  I planned on doing a TRX workout at the top of the largest hill but didn't find a suitable tree/clear ground.  I just did 5 sets of pushups and abs instead before heading down.

Today:  Off to Atlantic City tonight, so I'm going to do a quick ABX routine now.

I can't believe we are three weeks into this already!

Rest day today so I did a lot of flexability training today. I also did a few reverse planks, which will help with the supine pull through.

Tomorrow is test day. I will have to see if I do any better with cool timer replacing my mother.

    Surf Session

I have been less then spectacular this month. [:'(] I was able to get out fo bed this morning and do a little Surfing down at the local easy break. At first I was a bit dissapointed by my performance but ended up catching a nice little roller on my paddle in. Dumped me right on the beach. Fantastic.

I also cranked out a set of low rows as I attempt to have a more balanced training regimne. I was too heavy into the atomic pushups.

    Re: Surf Session

I tried surfing.  Once.  I somehow ended up past the break and ended up paddling for what felt like eternity.  Great workout, not so much fun.

Yesterday I did a modified ABX workout with some added sets of pushups, reverse crunches, and pullups.  Today I meant to workout but spent the entire day recovering from Atlantic City.  Never before have I seen THAT many people lose THAT much money in THAT short a time...except, of course, every time I check my investments and watch the news....

    Suspended Lunge: (R): 18    (L): 20
    Back Row: 22
    Hip Press: 25
Postural Squat: about 25 (My mother fell asleep and had me going for almost a full minute before i asked what the time was)

I really need one of those Gym Boss timers. Where can i get one?

Not sure why the back row and hip press weren't as good as before.

Re: Track Your Progress: 31-Day Fitness Challenge

All my training for this Challenge has been derailed in the past 5 days.  I've been down with a sinus infection and fever to match.  As soon as I am able (and recovered)  I'll be back fighting again to regain my former status in my performance.

That sounds like everyones first attempt at surfing. I have been surfing for a few years now and I still have mornings like that. This morning was one of those mornings. There was a lot of sitting annd when I finally decided to paddle back in some guy surfed over top of me. Initially I was not happy but now that I have my coffee and a bagel in me I relize it doesn't matter and surfing "...makes me forget all my worries..."

Alright here is the greatest surf trailer ever.

    Re: Surf Session

I have got to do that some day when I'm somewhere warm with nice, clean waters.

    Re: Surf Session

That is beyond awesome.  I think part of my problem was that I was trying to learn at the Jersey Shore, and let's face it, down there you have a greater chance of catching tetnus from a rusty fishing hook than you do a wave.  Before moving out to the left coast my sister went to Portugal and learned how to surf; she tells me that and snowboarding are the most addictive things she's ever done.  I'll give it another shot but I need to go to a place that is more conducive to learning...
