DVD's in the US are region 1 DVD's in Europe are region 2 The coding on these dvds stops them been played if your DVD player is not for that region.

DVD players are coded so you can only play DVD from certain regions or countries: USA is region 1 Europe is region 2 Therefore if I buy a DVD in the states, it wont work on my DVD player here in Europe.  Thanks for the tip regarding the DVD's. Keen to buy them but the prices here in the UK pounds are the same as you pay USD, so work out quite a bit dearer.  I have a friend going home to US for a holiday in August but need to know what region these DVD's are before I ask her to buy them.
