Born in Nebraska in 1975, Julian grew up around a
lot of large male members of his family. All the men were easily over 250
lbs. The funny thing was that they were all prior military of some sort
(Army, Air Force, or Navy). As he got older these strong fit men invariably got
more sedentary, got diabetes and eventually died. "I promised myself I
would not be that way." When he joined the Marine Corps he learned a lot
about nutrition and fitness. An amateur kick boxer and boxer in his
youth, the Corps provided the opportunity to continue those endeavors.
After leaving the Corps he caught himself falling victim to the same cycle as
his family members- less exercise and more gut. Although he joined a gym
and tried to stay in shape, a traditional gym was not the place for him.
Working with traditional weights and jockeying to do some weights led to him
getting fed up with a gym pretty quickly.

How did you
first hear about the TRX?

A friend of mind who was still in the Corps told me
about a TRX presentation at MCAS Miramar. He purchased one, brought it
over for me to check out and I was instantly hooked.

What excited
you most about the TRX?

Being an avid martial artist and rock climber I
loved the core work you can get on the TRX without even trying. Every exercise
I do forces me to activate my core muscles to keep proper form. I also
love that I can just toss it under the seat of my truck, pull it out at the
park and workout with my family.

How have you
incorporated the TRX into your workout routine/lifestyle?

I train 6 days a week in Krav Maga as my
foundational fitness routine. But the TRX has become the sole strength
and fitness training equipment I use for overall fitness. I don’t have to
go to the gym anymore and I can exercise outdoors, which is the best way to do
it in my opinion.

Where do you
typically workout using your TRX?

It is a pretty even split between my office at home
and the park. I just started bringing it to the Krav Maga school I teach
at and have been introducing it to my students.

What are your
fitness goals?

My main goal is to stay “Marine Corps fit” at all
times so that I will still be the baddest buffest grandfather/great-grandfather
I can be well into my 90s and 100s. And I want to have those 6 pack abs I
once had.

How do you
stay motivated?

Just seeing all the obese people around me is plenty
of motivation. My heart goes out to them when I see them but it also
frightens me into making sure I don’t miss my own workouts.

What does it
mean to you to be fit and why do you think it is important?

To me beign fit is all about the word yes.

For example:

“Hey guys wanna play some beach volleyball?”

“YES.”

“Hey anyone wanna play some touch football?”

“YES.”

“DADDY, come play tag with me.”

“YES.”

Anything else
you would like to add?

Training on the TRX and being a part of the Fitness
Anywhere Community has motivated me to become a certified nutritionist and
trainer so I can help other people the way the Marine Corps and the TRX have
helped me.

athlete, United States Marines know better than anybody the value of
staying physically fit. For a Marine stationed in a remote Combat
Out-Post (COP) in Afghanistan or Iraq, the ability to maintain their
combat readiness can be the difference between life and death.
Thousands of Marines have already discovered how the TRX Suspension
Trainer solves the age-old problem of how to maintain a physical edge
during arduous months deployed in hostile territory, and with their
enthusiastic testimony, the buzz around the TRX continued to grow
last week at Marine South.

Marine South is an annual exposition
which showcases state-of-the-art technology systems and equipment
designed specifically for the U.S. Marine Corps. Attending for the
third year in a row, Fitness Anywhere’s exhibit quickly became the
talk of the show. Drawn in by the enthusiastic crowd, Marines were
able to experience first-hand the intensity of a suspension training
workout, guided by Ed, Kenny and Alex, members of Fitness Anywhere’s
military team. Yet the most telling and impressive endorsements of
the TRX came not from the FAI team, but from the Marines themselves.
Countless Marines stopped by to relate the success they’d had with
the TRX, whether they’d anchored it to an LAV in northern Iraq, in
their COP in Afghanistan, or onboard a Navy amphibious ship floating
in the Arabian Gulf.

With the stirring testimony from the
field and the obvious benefits of the TRX on full display, hundreds
of Marines, and the Navy Corpsmen who fight alongside them,
discovered for themselves the value of the TRX and suspension
training. It was yet another great week at Camp Lejeune, and the
Fitness Anywhere team continues to look forward to helping Marines
maintain their combat readiness as they deploy to Afghanistan, Iraq,
and other hot-spots around the world.
